Happy 30th Birthday MTV!

On August 1st 1981 MTV launched at 12:01 AM with The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" and sparked the moment when 'pictures came and broke your heart.' The first hour featured videos by the Buggles, Pat Benatar, Rod Stewart, The Who, Cliff Richard, The Pretenders, Todd Rundgren, Styx, Split Enz, and .38 Special.

The MTV we loved has changed, some hope it will return to it's glory days. I have been talking with Alan and Martha on Facebook and they mentioned the original VJ's (JJ passed away in 2004) recently got together to celebrate. You can catch all the VJ's now on various radio shows.

Join them on their blog page http://www.80svjs.com/ or
on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/MTV80sVJs

I was the winner of the very first contest MTV ran, winning a years supply of Kraft Mac & Cheese, tickets to see Talk Talk and Elvis Costello, Sony Walkman, MTV Satin Jacket, Cassettes, MTV Buttons and Bumper Stickers...and a call from Martha Quinn!

You can watch the rest of the videos from day one on YouTube
